Read the message. Find the words.

Everyday communication, with autism and ADHD in mind

Explore possible meanings in workplace messages, ask for clearer context and practise replies. Shaped with autistic and ADHD adults in mind, open to everyone.

One question. Several possible paths.

Why a simple conversation can feel complex.

The words are only part of a conversation. Timing, tone of voice, shared history and what each person knows can change how a message lands. This example follows a conversation between two colleagues.

Your colleague says

“Can we talk after lunch?”

What you don’t know yet
  • A quick update?
  • Something to resolve?
  • A request for help?

The same words can carry different meanings. None of these is certain.

Three possible responses

Guess the meaning

You

“Have I done something wrong?”

Your colleague

“No, I wanted to discuss the handover.”

You started with different concerns. You can still pause and ask what needs discussing.

Ask for context

You

“Sure. What would you like to discuss?”

Your colleague

“The project handover. Nothing urgent.”

There’s more information to work with. You could agree a time and prepare a question.

Make a little space

You

“I can talk at 2. Could you send the topic first?”

Your colleague

“Of course. It’s about the handover.”

You’ve said what would help you take part. The other person may suggest a different time or approach.

You can ask, clarify, pause or try different words. A conversation can change direction at any point.

Illustrative human conversation. Each branch is a different possible path, not a prediction of someone’s feelings or behaviour.

In the application, you can ask Emolyn to play the colleague, try a reply and pause to explore another approach. See how conversation rehearsal works ↗

Everyone first. Always.

Communication support, at your pace.

A brief reply. An unexpected question. A change of plan. Emolyn gives you space to explore possible meanings and find the words for everyday conversations. Shaped with autistic and ADHD adults in mind, and open to anyone who would welcome a little more clarity.

Make tone visible

A reacting face and optional tone hints offer extra clues. You can question a reading or ask for another interpretation.

Take one step at a time

Start with a short reply and a concrete next step. Ask for more detail when you want it.

Find clearer words

Ask Emolyn to rephrase a message, explain an expression or help draft a reply in your own voice.

Try it before real life

Rehearse with Emolyn playing the other person. Pause for coaching, change your wording and try again.

Reading tone in text messages and emails

A brief work email or family message can leave room for interpretation. Explore possible readings before choosing your words. The “per my last email” guide shows how to separate a request from an assumption about intent.

Rehearsing difficult conversations

Asking for more time, joining a group or explaining a change of plan: try the conversation with Emolyn first. After a multi-turn rehearsal, a saved recap can help you reflect on what seemed useful.
